Landscape garden design and construction in the olive grove of the Turkish Aegean

Wanstead, East London

A garden extension designed to become the heart of a family home.

This project transforms a large house by creating a warm, light-filled extension that anchors daily family life. The new space opens generously to the garden and draws daylight deep into the plan through large openings and carefully positioned rooflights, allowing light to enter both from above and across the landscape.

Material continuity is central to the design. Quarry floor tiles extend seamlessly from inside to out, blurring the threshold between house and garden, while brickwork is used both externally and internally to give the extension a sense of permanence and tactility. Exposed timber joists introduce warmth and rhythm overhead, contrasting with the refined palette of marble and stainless steel in the kitchen to create a space that feels both robust and luxurious.

Bewa Studio led the detailed and technical design, working closely with the homeowner and project designer, Jon Sloan, to realise a carefully crafted, buildable architecture that supports everyday living.
