New Brown House
Hackney, East London
Mid-century inspiration blends with natural materials and sustainable design in this cozy, light-filled renovation of a post-war terrace house.
This extensive renovation and garden extension reimagines a 1960s end-of-terrace house in Hackney as a warm, characterful home for contemporary family life. Taking inspiration from mid-century houses in Los Angeles, the design opens up the interior to the garden, creating a more generous layout filled with daylight and natural textures.
A quiet dining nook, tucked to one side and lit from above, offers a moment of retreat, while timber sliding doors and exposed joists bring rhythm, softness and a handmade feel to the space. The natural material palette, combined with high sustainability standards, gives the home a grounded, enduring quality.
Bewa Studio led the project from early design options through planning, detailed design and construction — turning a modest house into a richly layered and inviting home.
